Glenbrook Community Information and Description
The heart of Calgary’s southwest region is the residential neighborhood of Glenbrook. Originally established in 1958, Glenbrook is found between 26th Avenue to the north, 37th Street to the east, Richmond Road to the south, and the Sarcee Trail to the west. Glenbrook maintains a population of 7,000 residents and growing with a median household income of approximately $43,000. Nearly half of the housing is used for renting purposes which has accommodated a wide range of Calgarians and has assisted in setting up a welcoming atmosphere throughout the community. The housing properties of the area of primarily single-family dwellings and select duplexes. Views of the Rockies and Strathcona Heights makes for an exquisite backdrop.
Public school students of Glenbrook are accommodated with the community’s own Glenbrook Elementary before moving on to A. E. Cross Junior High and then Ernest Manning Senior High School. Meanwhile Catholic school students attend St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary, St. Gregory Junior High, and Bishop Carroll Senior High School.
There are plentiful amenities spread throughout not only Glenbrook but also in the nearby community. Optimist Park and its dozens of recreational opportunities offered here entice residents of all ages to partake. The half-dozen other green spaces that occupy Glenbrook’s design are juxtaposed alongside the retail and dining establishments that line Richmond Road. Along Glenbrook’s southern border is found a GoodLife Fitness gym, a Canadian Tire, several banks, a Co-Op shopping centre, a pharmacy outlet, a Great Canadian Superstore, an Indigo Chapters bookstore, and several other businesses.
Calgary Transit offers several bus stops along Richmond Road as well as 37th Street, 26th Avenue, 45th Street, and 51st Street to assist residents who may wish to travel to other parts of the city.
The snuggly embrace of Glenbrook allows residents to take advantage of the numerous amenities that are found within and surrounding the neighborhood. The city-wide reputation of Glenbrook is one that grants its residents an escape from the inner city and instead presents a residential area that is still able to support everything you’d ever need – all within a two minute walk.
