Point Mckay

Set in the northwest quadrant of Calgary lies the small residential community of Point McKay. Tucked in by Bowness Road to the north and with the Bow River to its’ south, Point McKay is found just across the river from Edworthy Park. Originally annexed to the city in 1963, this neighborhood now maintains a population just under 1,500 with primarily all residents being permanent to Point McKay. Foothills Hospital is situated on the hill just north of the neighborhood while the downtown core is easily accessible via Parkdale Boulevard. Many residents favour Point McKay for its’ proximity to the recreational, shopping, and employment opportunities of downtown Calgary as well as for its’ access to the city’s pathway system.

Public school students of Point McKay attend local Terrace Road elementary school as well as the nearby Queen Elizabeth junior high and senior high. Catholic school students are assigned to attend the neighbouring Our Lady of the Assumption elementary and junior high before completing senior high at St. Mary’s or St. Francis’ depending on where they are located in Point McKay.

The Bow River and Edworthy Park allows residents of all ages to enjoy some of the finest green space that Calgary has to offer. The University of Calgary is only a neighborhood away though Point McKay accommodates more permanent residents than students. The downtown area is easily accessible via Bowness Road. The neighborhood doesn’t see very much growth in population due to the attractive amenities available in Point McKay.

Calgary Transit has a half dozen stops located along Bowness Road to ensure that residents have the opportunity to visit other parts of the city easily.
