Wildwood

The isolated Wildwood is sometimes forgotten by many Calgarians and it is widely considered to be one of the most desirable communities in all of Calgary. Originally developed in the 1950s on a plateau just south to the Bow River valley, the community is tucked in north of the Bow Trail and south of the Bow River. Only a few roads travel into Wildwood which cuts down on drive-through traffic significantly and for a neighborhood as close as it is to downtown amenities, it’s highly valued among residents who view it as their own pedestrian-friendly neighborhood secluded from the rest of the city. The properties primarily consist of single-detached bungalows on wide lots and with a population of just over 2,500 residents, Wildwood also plays host to Edworthy Park.

Public school students attend the local Wildwood elementary school before being assigned to attend Vincent Massey junior high and Edward Manning senior high. Meanwhile Catholic students attend classes at St. Michael’s elementary and junior high, and Bishop Carroll senior high school. With an elementary school in the neighborhood, many younger families choose to adopt Wildwood as home for this reason.

One of Calgary’s friendlier neighborhoods – perhaps THE friendliest – Wildwood is a perfect place to call home for those interested in maintaining their relationship with Mother Nature. Edworthy Park is one of Calgary’s fine natural parks and is within only a few minutes walking distance. So is the Bow River park and pathway system.

The neighborhood is also only a ten-minute drive to downtown Calgary and residents who don’t have transportation often choose the nearby Westbrook LRT station to take them to their destination. Furthermore Calgary Transit has multiple stops that line the Bow Trail and Spruce Drive. Residents are able to reach other parts of the city with no issue.
