Woodbine

Woodbine is one of the small collection of larger neighborhoods found at the southwestern edge of Calgary. The community is located next to the Tsuu T’ina first nation reserve to its’ west and the Fish Creek Provincial Park to its south which no doubt plays a major part in the secluded nature of Woodbine. With a population that equates a mid-sized town, it very much feels like one to the many families, seniors, and young people that call it home. Unique to this particular area of Calgary, there’s quick access to Glenmore Park, small retail outlets, major shopping centres, and the Woodbine Athletic Park serves as a community hub for all things sports. The neighborhood also has one of the lowest crime rates in all of Calgary making it a very welcoming community to young families and seniors.

Public school students attend the local Woodbine elementary, Woodman junior high, and Henry Wise Wood senior high school. Catholic school students attend St. Jude elementary, St. Stephen junior high, and Bishop Grandin senior high school. The local elementary schools are another major factor in why young families have chosen to settle down in Woodbine.

Many different organizations in association with the local community association operate in the areas including a lot of sports-related activities for youth and families. One of the event highlights of every year if the annual Stampede Breakfast put on. Woodbine is surrounded by beautiful green space that gives residents the opportunity to explore for kilometres at a time should they wish. Many of the area’s 9,000 residents highly value the secluded nature of Woodbine. For those interested in restaurants, shopping, and the nightlife need not look to Woodbine however the Southcentre Mall is located just a ways down Anderson Road. There many choose to do their shopping and their groceries. Despite its’ far away location to the downtown core, take Anderson Road down to Macleod Trail and you’ll have yourself a direct route that will lead you right up Calgary’s vibrant downtown area.

Although many residents do own vehicles, there are even more that don’t and Calgary Transit is always there to accommodate with nearly two dozen stops set up along Woodbine Blvd. and Woodfield Rd. The Anderson LRT and Canyon Meadows LRT are also nearby.

Woodbine connects its residents with the nature that surrounds the community and offers them seclusion that they couldn’t otherwise have in other parts of the city. It’s a beautiful, safe, and family friendly area that is welcoming to one and all – this is Woodbine.
